Heros Reward: Maryland's Newest Millionarie

Second Place Finish In G3 Jaipur Puts Him Over Threshold

07/20/2009- HEROS REWARD became the latest Maryland-bred to pass the million-dollar mark in earnings with his second-place finish in Belmont Park’s $150,000 Jaipur Stakes-G3 on July 18.

Sent off as the even-money favorite in a field of five, Heros Reward dueled the eventual winner, Silver Timber, through rapid fractions in the early stages of the six-furlong turf sprint, and fell a length and a half short at the wire.

The runner-up’s share of the purse ($21,200) raised the 7-year-old gelding’s lifetime total to $1,015,298.

Owned by Bob Haynes’s Rob Ry Farm and Jayne Marie Slysz, who claimed him for $20,000 in April 2006, Heros Reward has risen to prominence with trainer Dale Capuano.

The son of Partner’s Hero, bred by Gretchen Mobberley, has won multiple Maryland-bred championship titles in each of the last two seasons, including 2007 Horse of the Year.

Nineteen Maryland-breds have won $1 million or more.
