Summer Of Love Continues
Four Not For Love Stakes Horses In 24 Hours
08/24/2009- August is known for the heat, picnics, vacations... and NOT FOR LOVE stakes horses! Since the first of the month, the most successful stallion standing outside of Kentucky has had nine offspring hit the board in feature races. They’ve run on dirt, on turf, going long, going short... there are 2-year-olds, 3-year-olds, older runners... colts, fillies, it doesn’t matter. They are running lights out!
NOT FOR LOVE’s 3-year-old daughter BLIND DATE made it four stakes wins in five starts this year with her dominating display in the Pearl Necklace S. at Laurel Park on Aug. 22. The race, taken off the turf and run at one mile, was a perfect prep for a fall campaign that is expected to include a stop on Maryland Million Day on Sept. 26 at Laurel. A William Backer homebred trained by Hamilton Smith, BLIND DATE has earned $225,060 from just eight lifetime starts.
NOT FOR LOVE’s star on last year’s Maryland Million card, Classic winner CUBA, now 8, rallied to hit the board on New Jersey’s Thoroughbred Festival day on Aug. 23 at Monmouth Park in the Charles Hesse III H. Two races earlier, LOVE FOR NOT finished second in the Eleven North H. And at Charles Town on Saturday evening, the consistent GOLD STANDARD was a determined runnerup in the Frank Gall Memorial H. over a sloppy track.
Four stakes horses in 24 hours at three different tracks. What a delightful way to spend an August weekend!
