Medallist's First Crop Runners Continue To Shine

02/21/2010- Runners from the first crop of MEDALLIST turned in gritty and determined efforts at Gulfstream Park and Fair Grounds on Saturday, Feb. 20.

IBBOYEE, Medallist’s accomplished three-time stakes winner last year at 2, was overlooked in Gulfstream’s $150,000 Hutcheson S.-G2 but overcame a bumpy start in the 7-fur. stakes to finish third, two lengths behind winner D’ Funnybone in the Florida fixture, one of the traditional steppingstones to the Florida Derby. In seven career starts, under the tutelage of Todd Pletcher, Anstu Stables’ IBBOYEE has earned $373,298.

At Fair Grounds, first-time starter Z WINNER, sent out of the Steve Asmussen barn, tackled 10 foes and got up late for the score in a 6-fur. maiden special weight. The Maryland-bred, owned by Cathy and Bob Zollars, earned $23,400 for the effort.

MEDALLIST, a multiple graded stakes winner, was a top-20 leading freshman sire in 2009. Like their sire, MEDALLIST’s runners are going for gold!
