Uncle Lino has the family to do it all! He was precocious, as was his sire Uncle Mo, the nation’s Eclipse Award-winning 2-year-old after winning the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile-G1 and Champagne S.-G1.
He was bred for the classics – his dam HAYSEE is a half-sister to Preakness S.-G1 winner Shackleford and his sire had a Kentucky Derby-G1 winner in his first crop.
Uncle Lino made his way to the classics after winning at 2 and following the California road to the Triple Crown at 3 with on-the-board finishes in the Gr. 1 Santa Anita Derby and Gr. 3 Robert B. Lewis.
He then broke Dortmund’s track record in Los Alamitos’ California Chrome S., getting 1-1⁄16 miles in 1:40.82, before making his final start in the Preakness.
He retired having won or placed in six of eight starts, earning $316,160.
Uncle Lino’s second dam, Broodmare of the Year Oatsee, is a stakes-placed daughter of Kentucky Derby winner Unbridled who produced four other stakes winners including HAYSEE’s Gr. 1-winning full sister LADY JOANNE.
Uncle Lino covered 218 mares his first two seasons at stud.
